Back in the summer, I was contacted by Creativebug and asked if I wanted to take a look at their site and offer a giveaway on the blog. I immediately said yes! I had heard about the site and had been anxiously awaiting its launch. I knew this was going to be something that I would like and use, and I bet many of you will, too.
The premise behind Creativebug is simple. For a montly subscription fee, you get unlimited access to all of the art and craft workshops on the site. Let me repeat: UNLIMITED ACCESS TO ALL THE WORKSHOPS. Pretty amazing, huh? Even more amazing is the list of well-known and extremely talented instructors including some names that are probably familiar to you: Anna Maria Horner, Heather Ross, Natalie Chanin, Cal Patch, Liesl Gibson – and these are just some of the seamstresses. The class list goes beyond needle and thread. There are also classes on paper crafts, jewelry, ceramics, knitting, crochet, entertaining and more. Really it is too much to list.
I was able to preview the site and was very impressed by the quality of the videos. I loved that I could pause or go back a bit to see something again if I needed to. Also, the vidoes are broken down into steps so it's easy to do one or two steps and come back later to finish the project. Perfect for someone like me that often has a half hour or hour to make instead of large blocks of time. And really, nothing beats seeing someone actually make something and explain it at the same time, does it?
I encourage you to go see what Creativebug is about and if you like it to subscribe. There are classes for everyone and I think it is so wonderful that there is this amazing educational resource for crafters and artists right at our fingertips. Plus, they are adding workshops every week! If there is something that you have been wanting to try, this is a great, low-cost way of learning that new skill from skilled artisans that you normally would not have access to. Amazing, if you ask me!
Creativebug has generously offered a free one-month subscription to one of my readers. To enter your name in the hat, comment on this post and tell me what kind of classes you would like to see at Creativebug. If you are already a subscriber, tell me what classes you've taken. I'll keep the comments open until Thursday, September 27th at 8:00 p.m. EST and then choose one winner at random.
Good luck!
I think something about screenprinting would be neat.
This looks fascinating. I’ve always been interested in jewelery and metalsmithing, I wonder if that could be taught with an online video format?
I’m always interested in learning about patttern fitting/altering.
So cool! I’ve been excited about this too. I’m looking forward to learning some new things – maybe jewelry or printmaking. You know, the stuff that I have the materials for but am too scared to dive in on my own.
i wonder how this compares to craftsy? i have purchased a few classes there and like that it’s a one time deal. i’m worried i won’t have time in month to take advantage of the offerings! that said, i’m drooling for the chanin class and the class on the linen tunic by liesl.
I would love to see some classes on glass beads. I love knitting so I am very interested in those classes and want to learn crochet.
Man, that looks like a great site! I have been wanting to learn to crochet, so I’d definitely utilize those tutorials, but the sewing tutorials look fantastic, too! AND the embroidery. There’s just too much goodness to choose one.
I’d love to check out Natalie Chanin.
I’m always needing more help in sewing clothes to fit my body.
Holy Cow that looks awesome! I’d like to see far more knitting videos on techniques like intarsia, fair isle, cast on techniques, and bind off techniques.
I’d love to see videos on kids’ clothing and toys – knit/crochet/sewing. Looks awesome!
The teachers are what impress me. I would/will love this!
This is an amazing give away! I would love to be able to access the Creativebug treasure-trove! I would love to see more diversity in their instructors (there are no men, for example) but I’m confident that the group they have now will provide a lot of unique perspectives!
Thank you!
I’d love to see more needle felting classes as well as some more DIY. I think more of us woman should know how to use a drill and a hand saw!
I have only recently heard of Creativebug – and am intrigued to see how it compares/contrasts to Craftsy. The contributors are appealing – especially Natalie Chanin! I would be interested in any and all sewing classes (garments, quilts) and handwork like embroidery. Weaving is another area I would be interested in learning more about. This is a great giveaway, Erin – thank you for hosting.
I’m always looking for great projects I can do with my daughters, ages 9 and 12.
I would like to learn how to alter sewing patterns. Also I am a beginner knitter, so I need all the help I can get. Oh, and anything from Natalie Chanin!
What a cool site! I would love to get some help with my knitting and sewing skills. I pretty much wing it and could use some real lessons. My fingers are crossed!
I’m excited about possibly using these classes with my own advanced Fashion Studies students (I teach High School Home Economics) to allow them to “individualize” their course for themselves. Looks very neat! Would be nice to try it so that students or others could then subscribe for themselves.
I’d love to try it out. I’d be most excited for Anna Maria Horners or Heather Ross’s classes
I’m so interested in giving their website a whirl. I need to go check out what classes they have available. This sounds right up my alley.
Creativebug sounds like a fantastic site! I look forward to checking out…and would love to receive a one month subscription to give it a try! These days I do lots of paper crafting and am happy with my knitting skills, so what I’d most love to checkout are the sewing videos! I’d really like to learn to put in zippers and buttons so that I could start making some fun clothes for my two little bugs (aka daugters).
I think it would be amazing to see some sewing workshops. Like drafting patterns and sewing garment tips.
This site looks beyond awesome! There are numerous things that I want to try out on there. Now I know what to add to my Christmas or Birthday wishlist. It would be neat to see workshops on refinishing furniture, like old or thrifted finds.
Gosh…I don’t know how to narrow it down. Probably sewing related but I have always wanted to learn to knit.
I love to see crocheting class. I love to crochet 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway! I would love to watch some videos on embroidery and crochet.
I for sure watch the embroidery sampler, embroidering is something I’ve wanted to learn for a while and all other tutorials i’ve found just haven’t worked for me
I just signed up for a month. I love the videos and to be able to pause. I just made Anna Maria horner’s cross stitch necklace. Very cute. Quick project for the go. I might make a few for the holidays. My next project is a caftan top.
I would love to see more sewing classes such as Tailoring.
Wow! This sounds amazing! I’d love handquilting, heirloom garment construction, or tailoring.
I think it all looks amazing! My personal requests would be some classes on natural dyes and solar dyeing and as a new spinner, lots more ideas for funky yarns! 😀
I’m interested in dyeing and printing at home. Also I would love some knitting workshops.
I’ve taught myself so, so much from books over the years, but it’s amazing how much easier it is for me to learn visually; just five minutes ago, I watched Sew Spoiled show how to install a magnetized clasp! I struggle with pattern fitting, and would really like to watch something on adjusting bust measurements. Thanks for the chance to win!
I’ve never heard of this! I’ve been experimenting with screen printing and would love to see a full-scale demonstration to help with some of the details. Thanks for sharing!
i would love knitting instructions. Searching youtube can be time consuming and disappointing sometimes.
Thanks for intoducing me to this! What an interesting concept. I’d love to see anything by Natalie Chanin. I’ve admired her work for years.
I am always looking for inspiration. So ideas for sewing and crafting projects are much appreciated. Also tips for garment sewing and pattern fitting!
I would love to see some of the knitting classes and of course anything with Natalie Chanin… oh someday I’m gonna own something by that woman. I also love Anna Maria Horner and I really love that Maxi in the picture up there, so I would be sitting in on that one too.
please pick me! i’d love to explore this site.
I’d love to take all the classes for the things I’ve “taught myself”, such as applique, waist bands, etc. I’m sure my way is great (ha ha), but I’d like to review these classes to learn maybe better, faster, stronger, prettier ways to do the things I love. I’m the kind of person who likes to try on my own first, get my head around things, and then learn the RIGHT way to do it!
How to fix sewing mistakes, adjusting 2nd hand clothes to fit your own body, putting in stupid zippers!
It sounds great. This is the first blog I’ve seen it mentioned. I would love to take some classes on it. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Wow, this is the first I have heard of that website. Looks like fun!
I would love to see any classes on knitting as well as embroidery. Fall is settling in and I am itching to pick up some needles (I’m a new knitter!)
i would basic sewing classes, needlepoint, really anything!
Oh my goodness, I would be trilled beyond words to take a class from Natalie Chanin. This site makes accessable some really world-class talent that we may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn from.
What a wonderful website. A virtual cornucopia of crafting. Bookbinding is intriguing, but I love the work of Natalie Chanin. I could see myself keeping very busy!
Sewing, Felting, Jewelry making, knitting…. What a great resource!
This sounds wonderful. I’d love to learn a bit more about silkscreening and metalsmithing. I’m hoping that there aren’t any restrictions for Canadian crafters! Thanks for the giveaway!
I think a screenprinting class would be awesome!
Thank you for introducing this! The crochet and knitting classes for beginners are things I am going to try :).
The classes sound so great. I’d love a beginner knitting class, drawing, watercolors, felting, and embroidery for starters! Thanks!
My first thought was – sewing classes (I’d start with Natalie’s!) but my goodness, there are so many things I’d love to learn!
I like the idea of one price and unlimited classes, but I can’t imagine I’d have the time to get my ‘money’s worth’ on an ongoing basis. especially if I were to actually DO what I learned 😉 I sure appreciate the chance win a month’s subscription ~ thank you!
wow! what an amazing idea – i would love to give this a try. thanks for hosting the giveaway.
Looks great. I would love to see more sewing classes — covering the basics! I am also very interested in jewelry making techniques. Thanks for the giveaway!
I have been looking at creativebug for a month or so now, but cannot really afford to subscribe at the moment. I love the sound of just about every workshop they offer, but I am mostly a sewer so I guess those are the most appealing.
Looks like a great site! I would like to see handwork classes for Lefties. I have taken tatting, crocheting, and knitting classes elsewhere and always get left in the dust so I rarely sign up for classes unless they can “handle” lefties.
Creativebug looks so neat. The embroidery transfer class by Rebecca Ringquist looks awesome. So cool.
What a neat website! I would definitely be interested in more sewing related classes.
Oh my…so many great classes that I would love to try! (embroidery, knitting,a class with Natalie Chanin) Thanks!
I just panicked because it is 10:00 but then I raelized it is only the 26th! Whew I made it in time, this looks too fun to pass up.
wow – what a great idea! I am going to check this out right away!
hand embroidery!
Crocheting please!
I would like to know more about pattern fitting
Oh wow. I’d love to see some pro advice on crochet, some Anna Maria patchwork and colour tips, and dressmaking ideas. It looks like a great resource!
basic quilting. the internet has taught so much, but i know there is so much more for me to learn!
sewing techniques – e.g. how to get a really good finish inserting a zip…
… and different types of printing including screenprinting
So much choice on there already!:)
