Happy Tuesday.
We had a salad from our garden last night – pretty exciting and very tasty. We set our two new raised beds over the weekend. I hope to get the dirt and compost to fill them today.
Kate made her First Communion on Sunday. She had a great day and I am so proud of her. We went to a fancy dinner in a hotel with an modern art museum next door. I need to remember to take the kids downtown more.
It's Derby week.
The peonies are getting closer to blooming.
I want to join in on Meg's Kids Clothes Week Challenge. I'm going to start making my plan – nightgowns and skirts are on that agenda, I think.
The random number generator said 69 so Vicki is the winner of Comfort Knitting and Crochet Afghans. Congrats Vicki – I'll email you for your address!
Our cupboards are bare. To the market, I go.
And thanks to all who bought scrap bags. I'll make more available as soon as I have the scraps to fill them. I best get sewing.
Back soon, I hope. Take care.
Yay for garden salads! We had some arugala on top of pizza Sunday night: http://sweetfernhandmade.blogspot.com/2010/04/first-of-year.html
I love this time of year. 🙂
I love garden time. I planted corn late yesterday afternoon. After a lovely day at the beach with my husband. Oh I do love Mondays
can I put you on the list?
Oh how I wish I could pick my own salad. So jealous.
Next year, definetly!
Yay, I can’t wait for salad from our garden to be big enough to eat! I’ve been out snapping photos of seedlings today, and am so excited at their progress.
Also looking forward to kids’ clothes week 🙂
ok. sure.
it'll make me do it. and i might just do a tutorial if something works out like i think.
Oh yum-o! I wish I could pick my own salad greens. For now the farmers market will have to suffice!
We had our first garden salad, too, and I could hardly stand it. It was lettuce, self-seeded from last year, and over-wintered. Crazy. Good. And now it needs harvesting again, hoo-ray! Enjoy your new beds — how fun is that?!
that’s awesome that your garden is producing already. i cannot wait until i have something out there to pick.
Lucky lady! We planted our salad bed late, and I go out every day and whisper encouragement. Do you have any suggestions for homemade salad dressings to go on homegrown salads?
Also, do you have any great Derby week recipes to share? I’m still menu planning, but all I’ve come up with is a recipe for a facial!

Oh….I can’t wait until I actually have a garden and can pluck salad from it. Heavenly. Next year, I hope!
no good derby recipes….but i'll share a vinaigrette soon!
all sounds so lovely! i’d love to have a garden! your salad looks fresh and amazing 🙂
Sounds wonderful! I’ve been harvesting herbs from pots on our deck, and it has been great. Enjoy your raised beds.
Congratulations, Kate! First Communion day is one of our favorites. My daughter so looks forward to hers.
Best of luck with your raised beds. It’s so nice to hear that you are already enjoying your garden. We’ve just had 2 days of snow here in Vermont!!
Can’t recall how I got to your site but I’m glad I did!:) I am really looking foward to the summer time veggies from the garden. Thank you for your wonderful photography
Hi there,
I am a huge fan of your website. I have two young kids aged six and three. I love reading your suggestions on food / snacks for your kids and your family meals. I tried one the other night that even my fussy six year old liked: honey mustard chicken breasts. They were also quick and easy. I got the recipe from the Oprah website: http://www.oprah.com/food/Honey-Mustard-Chicken-Breasts
I read the book, “Living Oprah” and she raved about it in her book. Worth a try for the family.
All the best,
Rosalind Sew Sydney
I would love to see those peonies bloom. It’s really delicious when you are making salad from your garden. Have a great Tuesday!
