Or really, a medium decaf and 2 Jones sodas. I felt compelled to buy something in order to use the coffee shop’s free wi-fi.
We lost power yesterday at about 1:00 p.m. A huge wind storm came flying through our city, courtesy of Ike, I think. Anyhow, there are trees down everywhere and it doesn’t look like we will have our power back for about a week. There wasn’t school today and it’s been called off for tomorrow. Everyone we know is safe and, besides some downed trees, unharmed. The weather is mild – cool temps, no rain – so there is little to complain about. House on Hill Road has a gas stove and a gas water heater so we are really holding up just fine. I feel really blessed and thankful that we are ok.
I’ll be away from the computer until the power is on and the phone is working so if you are waiting to hear from me, sorry! I will get back to everyone just as soon as I can.
Until then, friends, take care.
eRin: Thank goodness you are all okay. Take care! aNa
Oh no! I had a feeling that happened – I heard the same from another friend in Louisville. Take care and enjoy the camping in your own home.
oh, erin! i am happy that you are all fine, but having no electricity really is rotten. hopefully, the week timeframe is an over-estimate. we were out for 6 days, but there are still quite a few people here in south louisiana who aren’t expected to have power restored until the beginning of october! at least you have cooler weather where you are…take care! xoxo
Happy to hear that you and yours are safe!
Camping at home (with hot water) – sounds like an adventure! Take care.
Take care Erin! You’ll be in my thoughts.
Glad to hear you’re all okay.
yikes! best wishes for a quiet together time while you wait for the power – glad you’re all okay.
no electricity = no fun! hopefully they get the power up soon! :]
I hope you’re all doing well!
thank heavens for the gas! all too familiar with the scenario you describe (though we’re all electric). thinking of you there in the dark and sending hugs your way.
You take care friend!
Glad to hear you are all okay!
Well, at least everyone is safe….sucks about no net, though! :wah: π
I hope you aren’t without electricity for an entire week. that would not be fun.
i hope your week gets better. and i am glad you and your family are okay.
Sounds like a good time for knitting! xo
somehow, in the pitch dark, I just managed to bum an ice cold beer off one of my neighbors. I guess where there’s a will, there’s a way!
Sent from my iPhone.
ugh. hope everything is back to normal again soon.
xoxo
I hope your power is back on soon! I’m glad you are all safe and sound!!!
Why do I have the feeling you will not be at a loss for things to do?
Keep warm. Enjoy the forced break!
stay safe and hopefully the power comes back on sooner than later.
Glad to hear ya’ll are Ok!
Erin, so sorry to hear this but glad to hear you’re all okay and in good spirits. Our family was in a similar situation a couple of years ago, I went to Peter’s office to blog about it! We lost power for close to a week, it was interesting and wouldn’t want to do that again. I got all Laura Ingalls Wilder on everybody, they thought I would start churning my own butter!
Take good care. xo
So glad you are safe. x
We’re out of power still, maybe for a few more weeks as well. No real damage, though. Using my mother’s gas stove — should have upgraded mine before the storm!
Our library’s turning into a FEMA distribution center, so I have to go in to work π
But glad you’re fine!
Well, no power means you get to “get to know” your BBQ a little better!
I’ve got a brother in Columbus who’s got kids with canceled school and trees all over the neighborhood. Pretty crazy!!!
whew, there sure is a lot of shingles flying on Sunday! thankfully our electricity is only out for 45 minutes.
I’m glad to hear you’re all okay! Hopefully you’ll get your power back sooner–until then, you can always knit!
I’m glad you’re all ok. I’m thinking of you friend, sending you good thoughts. I hope the power comes back soon. Give me a call when you can.
Oh Erin, you have my sympathies! At least the weather is nice π
We had some crazy winds and rain up here too… tornados on Friday night… it is so scary when weather takes over! Hope that power is back on sooner than expected. hugs to you. (and thanks for popping in to touch base!)
Hang in there!
Oh! it’s just so amazing that our storm made it all the way to you, and was still so powerful!
I’m so sorry that you’re without power.
Hope to see you soon!
Be safe…glad everyone is ok…have fun playing in the dark..most important you can take hot showers.
Polly
Glad everyone is okay… hope your week without power flies by quickly!

Take care of yourself. Your family is in our prayers.
Glad to hear your safe. Scary stuff, this global warming.
There are alot of people around us that don’t have power either. I hope it doesn’t take them long to get you guys back up and running.
Glad everyone is ok. Do take care.
Glad everyone is ok. Do take care.
i have this funny feeling you’re going to emerge with all sorts of knitting done. you are quite good at that whole industrious thing π
Sorry about Ike. He blew through my town on Fri night/ Sat morning. We too have no power along with 90% of Beaumont, TX. Yuck. Hope the indoor camping proves to be fun for you and your family!
happy to hear you are all safe.
will miss you for a bit. stay well.
Glad to hear everyone is fine. You will have a newfound appreciate modern day conveniences for sure.
thankful you and your family are safe.
no power- no worries for you. I’m sure you’ve found plenty to do and will be posting all sorts of envious treasures when you’re back to full power. looking forward to it!
Eeek! I heard that Ike was being felt in your neck of the woods. That is scary! (And surprising!) Stay safe and cozy, dear friend.
We were one of the few that had power, so everyone has been plugging in freezers, doing laundry, showering, etc. here. I hope your power gets back on soon. Otherwise, there are a few extra shelves in my freezer and outlets here!
Glad you are alright – stay safe π
I’m glad all’s well. Take care!
I was in a blizzard in my college dorm and the power was out for 3 days. Everyone on my floor sat around (wearing everything we owned) and told ghost stories and made smores over candles. I am glad your family and friends are safe, I know this is VERY inconvenient, but hopefully you will be able to make some fun out of it! God bless.
I got hit head on by Hurricane Ike when it made landfall, a huge tree landed right in front of my house (I couldn’t get off my porch); not fun, so we can be buddies w/o power together.
oh Erin…be careful!
oh no! we lost our power for 36 hours and it was so hard………
hope you guys are all doing well. x
Hope it’s on again by now. We didn’t lose ours, but many of our friends did. You don’t realize how much you depend upon it until it’s gone.
Sending positive thoughts your way π
I’m glad you’re safe and can at least get a hot meal and shower!
I’m glad you’re safe! π
I’ve tagged for the “Six Random Things About Me” meme! If you want to play come check out my blog post π
Erin, I cannot remember where you live, but I was just visiting my sister in Ohio and she was without power. we were visiting from AZ, and were without powere 5 of the 7 days we were there. It was crazy to hit a laundry mat with six kiddos in tow. She lives in the city, but had many trees down. Their neighbor lost their porch to a HUGE tree. She regained power on Saturday. I hope you did too.
You’re so funny. Arrr.
