I took this pile of stuff and made a quilt.
It’s a whole cloth quilt meaning that it isn’t pieced at all. I used 1 1/2 yards each of two 60" wide fabrics. The green gingham is on one side, the floral on the other with a nice layer of cotton batting in the middle. I spray basted it with 505 to save time and then did some free motion quilting. I evened up the ends and set it aside. This part took 2 hours.
I cut the pink and green polka dot into binding strips, pieced them and then pressed them using my clover bias tape tool. I zig zagged the binding on. This wasn’t ideal. It would have looked way better hand sewn, but time was of the essence. I had to rip it out a couple times. This part took 1 1/2 hours. Then it went in the washer and dryer, got boxed, wrapped and dropped off for my neighbor’s baby shower this weekend.
A quick and highly satisfying project. And pretty damn cute, too.
darn you hugely-talented-you! to be able to complete something so wonderful in that amount of time. the sweetest of gifts – lucky babe.
It is totally adorable. I love your loopy quilting!
You are amazing, Erin. So prolific. This is beautiful. xo
It turned out darling. Cudos to you!!
erin, this is amazing. i LOVE it! i’m in awe of these amazing projects you are making these days…(and a little jealous! π
what a great gift…i’m sure mom and baby will love it! handmade is always such a great way to gift.
very cute, i say! what a great gift. thanks for the reminder that quilts can be great gifts without being pieced=super time consuming!
I love it! And such a quick project, too. That’s my kind of crafting π
Wow, what a great idea! I sure could use some super quick gift ideas like this for my super long Christmas presents list.
I am missing out on free motion quilting, but I guess straight lines would have to work.
Genious! I have been procrastinating on a baby quilt, and this seems like a great solution. I may even get it done before the baby arrives.
What a great job! And only 3 1/2 hours! Amazing!
Super-cute! I love how it turned out.
I’m with TD- darn you ;o) You’re taking away all my excuses! Looks fabulous π
it’s pink and green, so of course I’m smitten.
Fabulous. Must pull out my sewing machine (still buried under things we moved during the hurricane) and see if I can do the same with some Christmasy fabric!
I’ll say!
okay. i have said it before, but you are just so good.
that mama to be is going to LOVE it, and enjoy it for years!
oh so so cute! and quick!
never heard of the 505 stuff before, thanks for the tip! The quilt is mighty cute, I’m sure it will be loved.
Very cute. No piecing is a great idea for a baby item – that way washing it a million times won’t be a problem.
it’s beautiful. Can I ask you a quilt question (don’t worriy if you don’t have time to reply)? Is there any cheaper alternative to a walking foot to quilt straight lines? I have just found out that it cost the equivalent to $100 here in the UK for my machine!!!!!
that’s my kind of project. quick!
Waaay cute, love the color combination!
love it, erin. those simple sandwich baby quilts are so satisfying to make. and, pink and green? so fun – and even more so on that pink chair against the green wall…
Wow! It’s really beautiful!
Can I just say how hugely jealous I am? My last quilt was the “Seven YEAR Quilt”–it says so, embroidered right across the bottom corner.
Oh dear. Maybe next time I can make one in a time somewhere between three and a half HOURS and seven YEARS.
Joanne
P.S. It’s lovely–lucky baby!
Wow, your amazing. And, your right, it is cute.
It’s lovely. (Almost) instant gratification.
REALLY damn cute and a great way for me to practice free motion quilting! Can’t wait to try it!
Super Cute! I love baby quilts and try always to make them for gifts. I’ve never tried this method but I’ve got a shower coming up soon and am seriously short on spare time. On top of being talented you also have perfect timing!
wicked cute. happy road tripping!
xoxo
sometimes the simple projects turn out the cutest!
This is SO my kind of project. Love it!
Wow! It is adorable. Three and a half hours!! I am astounded. I think it took me roughly three and a half YEARS to make the quilt I just finished. I hand pieced and then hand quilted it. I really enjoyed the process, but I am very willing to learn some short-cuts. I love that little quilt!
the gift will certainly be treasured!
I must make one soon — so many babies will be born in the near future!
oh my gosh. you need to offer classes. seriously.
I can only dream of a day when I can make a quilt that fabulous in anything less than 3 weeks!! I’m so jealous π
Totally and completely impressed! Good job!
How lovely!
Looks great!
Cuter than you told me. LOVE those fabrics!
A great and quick idea.
ooooo! Pink and green are my favorite whimsy colors.
I wish I could develop some of your crafting speed these days. It’s taking me forever to get going on holiday gifts that I was going to get a jump on.
Love the free motion quilting here.
very very cute. I have wanted to try some free motion quilting ever since I found out you can do that on a regular machine (I know, I’m clueless). Thanks for the ispiration – yet again!
i need to feel this kind of quilt satisfaction right now, I feel like every project I’m working on right now is headed for the trashcan.
Oh what a lucky baby!!! You are amazing!
Oh, cutest one quilt! My mother-in-law just gave me all kinds of material (cars, trucks, heavy equipment) to make my son a quilt for his “big boy bed” … up to this point I was putting it off to find the “right” material… guess I better get to work. Thanks to you and to her for the inspiration to get it made!
You are truly amazing…I am in awe. π
Admirable and gorgous
What a cute quilt. I just may have to try this!
I am the very lucky mother who received this quilt at my baby shower yesterday. What a genuine treasure it is! I just absolutely love it and it goes perfectly with the other things I’ve picked out for my baby girl’s room! It will be used fondly and a very special keepsake for years and generations to come. Erin – you are an amazing woman and I am so happy to be a receipient of one of your masterpieces! Thank you, thank you.
Wow. You really are inspiring!!! This is beautiful!
Oh, yeah, and what a lucky recipient! That baby will be so snuggled and sweet in this.
are you serious?! wow. i am not a quilter, but i have a quilt i began six years ago and have never finished the binding, can i hire you? π
WOW, a 3 hour quilt! Looks like a very productive 3 hours too. Very cute. I think I will challenge myself to a 3 hour quilt and see where I get…more than likely ~ not finished. π
Love the simplicity of the blanket but the detail in the quilting. Gorgeous!
do you have any intro or begining quilting books you reccomend?
Not only is that gorgeous and very impressive, but in some ways better than hand-sewn, as it’s easier for the mum to use and wash repeatedly, rather than feeling it has to be overly protected. (i say as mum to toddler + baby!)
great idea…totally cute!
It’s always fun to make a whole cloth quilt! Yours is so cute. I love love love the color combo!
Fast and easy… I like! It turned out fantastic. It’s beautiful and looks like it will be well recieved. Does it still work out if you sew on the binding using the machine?
I’ve never made a quilt before. I should make one for my friend’s baby shower. You have inspired me! Thankyou.
I SO hope to be this good one day. You are awesome! I love that quilt, I want it for myself!
what a great idea… thanks for the inspiration, I need to make a baby quilt and this would be perfect!
I can’t believe you made this so quickly. It would take me longer than 3 years to make.
I finally made something somewhat following your inspiration here … I’m very pleased.
