Yesterday I finished the quilting Swoon and then I appliqued this little monster shirt for my nephew's first birthday. I hadn't done an appliqued t-shirt in a very long time and I forgot how much I like them. Jane drew the inspiration for this monster and with a little editing, I did the sewing. There's nothing like taking a plain, unadorned tee and a little imagination to make a unique piece of clothing.
I remembered to take a photo of the t-shirt right before I wrapped it up and mailed it off for today's birthday boy. (Yes, still procrastinating over here – some things never change). It dawned on me last night as I uploaded the photos from the camera to the computer that the way I blog has changed dramtically over the last five years. (Hard to believe it's been that long.) I used to blog about every small thing I made and in the first year or two, I posted something here about three or four days a week. Now I find myself chronicling more of my bigger projects and with less frequency. There are many little items I've made that haven't made it to the blog. Is it because I have less time to post here or because I feel like once you've seen one, or three, or ten appliqued t-shirts, you've kind of seen them all? I'm unsure really. I don't know what that says about me or how my life is/was. It's just an observation, something to think about.
All that said, I like the little monster shirt. It was fun to make and a good break from all that straight line quilting. The quilt binding is next. With any luck, it'll be finished and on Jane's bed before the weekend is over.
what a great top…and better late than never!
it sort of sounds like you are a bit burnt out? priorities change and perhaps this is not something as beneficial to your life/happiness as the other things going on around you? either way, i find it necessary to say that house on hill road is one of the first {virtual} stops i make in my {every}day.
i hope your blog motivation rekindles itself…i enjoy reading about all of your projects and following you on pinterest as well. š
What a cute shirt! Love the little horns/ears.
I can’t wait to see the quilt!
He’s so baaaaaad (in an utterly brilliant way)!!
And yes, in the early days of blogging, I felt like I had to make something in order to post. These days, not so much. Perhaps it’s that I’m making less, but still want to witter on. And I think there is so much stunning work on blogs, I don’t feel my efforts match up. Which is nuts, given that it isn’t a competition.
cute monster t! i’m sure it’ll be his immediate favorite shirt.
as such a new blogger, i definitely feel like i should post at least a couple times a week to “practice” blogging and get myself out there. i can definitely see it tapering off though, once i’ve been doing it awhile. it isn’t a competition, you can do what you want!
Oh yes, I’ve been feeling very ‘been there done that’ with my blog. I also roll my eyes when I see a tutorial posted about something that has already been done a million times. I guess when you’ve been at this for a while, there are parts of it that get old. I’ve been doing a lot of pondering, too, these days. I even thought about writing a post…
Can’t wait to see the quilt. I’m sure it’s fabulous!
My blogging tends to ebb and flow depending on how much else is happening in life.
For the record….I never tire of seeing any little project. I really enjoy your blog, and I certainly would be happy for daily posts. However, I can sympathize with the fact that it sometimes feel like less of a creative outlet and more of a chore if you feel you HAVE to do it.
However, showing pictures of the finished Swoon isn’t optional. (How’s that for pushy??) I own the pattern and it is next in line. I can’t wait to see your take on it! š
darling! I want one. I’m thinking you should sell these on Etsy. ; )

I like the way you blog sista! : D
Love it! What a way to liven up boy ware, which is so *yawn…..* dull.
Forgive me for asking, as I’m sure you’ve covered it in the past, but how did you work the applique, Erin? Interfacing underneath? Surely not all the edges were turned under… Haven’t tried any yet, but keep wanting to…
Congrats on the quilt. You must be standing six feet tall.

adorable !!!!!!!!
It’s a lovely shirt. š
So cute … and I’m excited to see the quilt!
Wonderful and inspiring – can’t wait to see the finished quilt!
this is so timely because i have been thinking about trying applique. i’m really not much of a sewer at all but am often inspired by your work (still drool over the quilt you whipped up for your old babysitter, i think it was?). this is so cute and now i really do want to try something like it for my daughter…i’m sure he’s gonna love it!
Small projects, big projects, I love seeing anything you care to share! And, I know a nine-year-old who would absolutely love a shirt like this. It’s fab.
It’s always wonderful to see what you have been working on so share whenever and whatever you wish. š
oh goodness… i feel the same way about my blog.
yet i would LOVE to see each and everything YOU make! š
xx
