I know it's Tuesday, but my kids had a five day weekend. I've been so confused as to what day it is. Thursday felt like Saturday and yesterday felt like Sunday. And while sleeping in for 5 days in a row was quite lovely, this morning came a little too soon. My internal clock and calendar are all messed up.
Yesterday I spent 15 minutes quilting 3 potholders that have been sitting on my sewing table since September. Why I didn't do this sooner, I have no idea. It was instantly gratifying – as soon as I finished, I took them to the kitchen and used them while making dinner. The actual dinner was horrible, but that is an entirely different story all together.
And then last night while watching TV, I finished up the second sleeve of my tea leaves sweater. That little ball of yarn is all that remains – it was a really close call. It fits, but I have to block it and find the right buttons before I can wear it.
What still remains unfinished is the big playroom reorganization that I started on Thursday. It's been a slow job, but I think the end is in sight. And after that, I am trashing out the sewing room. I'm working up the courage to be ruthless with myself. It's time to de-stash. And it's going to be hard.
What does it matter if the dinner is horrid – if the potholders are cute? I am often comforted by that very thing…well the process was fun since the holders are great. Well done!
I’m in the midst of de-stashing and de-cluttering. A lot of work! But feels very good afterwards!!!
Speaking of those darn cute potholders. Are we ever going to see those in the shop? π
Kim
Oh dear, I should really destash too. I’m thinking of giving myself a deadline and if I haven’t used it by then I’ll have to pass it on.
I just destashed over the weekend…getting rid of all the teeny tiny scraps was tough. BUT the garbage bag of scraps going to my daughters preschool is rewarding and gratifying.
I love the potholders, they are so cute, and yay for getting your sweater done. Good luck with the decluttering, I feel like I am in a constant state of decluttering.
I hear you on the day confusion–my kids were off yesterday, and they have a half day on Friday and are off next Monday too! I’m really not going to know which way is up by next Tuesday!
Good luck with the clean-out!
Good for you for completing those projects! I am tackling some started projects as well. It seems you and I reversed the order of our projects – I spent my long weekend cleaning out my sewing room, and it feels like a brand-new place!!! So inviting and CLEAN! π May the force be with you…
discombobulated… muddle-fuddle… ucky-mucky… i’m feeling it too. i love the happy colors of the yarn & coaster though; it’s nice to visit your house with all its great colors. π
Wow! Such productivity! I wish I could say mine was as productive. I’ve got so many projects in the works right now I somehow can’t get clear enough to work on any of them. And don’t even talk to me about housework!
Hearing about your playroom re-organization might (I hope) get me inspired to overhaul ours. I want my kids to enjoy it rather than not enjoying the space as it has become a bit of a toy/craft dumping ground. I hope you share photos and tips.
it feels so much like monday to me that it took me a minute to figure it out after i started reading this post! oops.
i’m so glad you had enough yarn!! can’t wait to see the finished product.
I am feeling a bit wonky too. I love the days off, but not the getting back on track part. Is it summer yet?
I totally need to destash…my space would feel so much better.
De-stashing is coming up at my place too. Luckily I just signed up to make two twin size charity quilts so at least I can feel like my “precious” fabric is going to a good home. Congrats on finishing your WIPs–such a great feeling!
We are still not back on track fro xmas break!
Maybe I need some of those cute potholders for when the dinners here go wrong in every which way…
I am officially putting myself on the list of people who want to take others leftover scraps and unused sewing/knitting items after the “destash” heehee!!
Amazing what we can accomplish in just 15 minutes! I sometimes put off projects that I don’t feel I have “enough” time to finish, when in reality every little bit of time invested completes the project!
ooh! close call indeed. were you freaking out as you watched the ball dwindle down?
ps: i have been on an apron-making spree … inspired by you.
Yay for finishing both, and I’m so happy you had just enough yarn to finish. My dinner yesterday was horrid too – must have been something in the air.
progress is good. seems like you’re on a good path.
love the pot holders. makes dinner prep less of a chore with something so cheery!
can’t wait to see that sweater. i have an eco green wool in the cupboard just waiting!
I’d love to see photos of your playroom organization if you’d like to share!
I too am having to get a little or alot ruthless and pass things on. I have a wonderful craft room, and yet is to messy that i can not create in there. To me it feels like such a waste.
It’s that time of year though, purging and organizing.
It will so nice when it is all done!! The key is just keeping at it!

love the pot holder. I’m with you on being a day behind today…I’m just trying to go with it. I’ve just been through my craft room and had a huge clear out. HUGE I tell you. And three months later I think I need to be even more ruthless. Good luck:)
Love your blog! I just discovered it today and it is so inspiring! It will go on my daily reading list.
Totally identify with the feeling of “well THAT didn’t take long! why didn’t I do that BEFORE??” Seems to happen to me whenever I tackle the stuff that’s been sitting around forever. Also strongly identify with the day confusion… (:
Love your blog… and what a fantastic pot holder… any chance you’ll post a tutorial on how to make them!? Best of luck with the reorganization!
With the move to the big new house I was definitely ruthless. And honestly I have not regretted a single moment of it. There has been nothing I gave away that I am still thinking of and I have less.stuff.to.manage. Wonderful! (Well, until a craiglist pick up went bad and they accidentally took my porch bench along with a lot of fabric I was giving away. But that’s beside the point, isn’t it?)
Love the potholder! Might have to make one myself someday. Your quilting on it was done so well. It looks perfect.
De-stash! It can be an ugly word. I am in the process myself. I am always amazed how much accumulates! I had to clear half of “my room” so hubby could have a little space for his treasures! eBay, here I come:) BTW, the potholders are great-a great way to use up some fabric stash;)
That is such a pretty composition in your photo.
I know, I feel like I’m just starting *last* week, not to mention what day it is this week.
I need to make some pot holders.
“manage disaster in small steps”…i read that in the paper today.
beth
shoot! i’m so close to having/making buttons again…i wish i had something great for you! i finally found someone who’s going to fire my pottery in with her stuff, so soon. very soon.
that green yarn is killing me. i love it.
happy, tuesday. (i had to check the computer to be sure it WAS tuesday. this day was long enough to be three days.)
it sounds like you’ve been incredibly productive! Isn’t it funny, how we set things to the side only to come back to them and wonder why we waiting to finish them. They look lovely!
Love the potholder!
i am so glad that you had enough for those sleeves! phew!
can’t wait to see the sweater.
Oh you are so good! I need to de-stash and declutter but dreading it more than ever as we are considering moving (showing the house plus moving stuff – OH MY!) Even if we don’t, well, it’s good for the soul, right?
We have yet ANOTHER snow/ice day and the girls are in for a shock. All the others I have let them do whatever they want. Not today. Today we declutter their rooms, papers and basement playroom. I do promise to try very hard not to yell at all the goofy stuff I find. I can’t make the afternoon fun, but I can make it not miserable.
Oh dear. Destashing is so difficult. Good luck!
Pretty pot holder by the way.
Be strong with the destashing, friend! Before moving we did a ton of it, and it felt so good to be free of things that had previously weighed on my mind every time I came across them. We’re doing more purging now, too, as we settle into our place and find that we have so much more than we need. Maybe you can enlist the help of a friend – it’s sometimes good to have a second opinion or someone to be a sounding board as you debate getting rid of things.
What a gorgeous pot holder – and a fab gift idea! I’m guessing you didn’t use a pattern?
the pot holders are so cute. can’t believe it took you only 15mins
That is a great potholder! I love all the colors and the surrounding white.
Keep us posted on the destash. I’m in a stash building phase… so if you decide to sell them through you shop please or something similar please let us know.
Who knows maybe some of your talent for combining colors will rub off one me. π
I enjoy your blog so much! I love the new picture on your header…very beautiful. I am about to try to eliminate some of the clutter in our home too. Clutter stresses me out! So it needs to go! Unfortunately it is taking the form of my kids toys all over the place and they are not so forgiving when I give their stuff away. If you don’t play with it, it’s outta here!
Good luck with your playroom! I’d love to have you stop by my blog if you ever have a spare minute or two!
Adorable potholder! May be a perfect stash busting project. I am joining Wondermommy in her stash busting contest. (http://wondermommy.wordpress.com/2010/01/12/stash-busters/) I know I won’t win anything (with 2 kids and a full-time job sewing is limited), but I will have the satisfaction of dwindling my stash and finishing long overdue projects. Good luck with the play room organization, I always dread that.
I am de-stashing too right now.
But forced by an imminent move.
It’s hard and satisfying at the same time. And I am doing it without mercy!!
I LOVE a good household purge in January! It just feels so good to start the year feeling a little bit more organized, and a little less cluttered. My bathroom cabinets are on the agenda this weekend – checking expiration dates should be comical!
Seriously…I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for you to put those potholders in your shop. I fell in love with them the last time you posted them. Don’t you think those would make a great Valentine’s gift for my husband to buy me?
that potholder is really cute – what do you use for the batting – more than one layers? itΒ΄s really lovely.
and yay, the yarn was enough. π
Totally not relevant to your post for today, but I just wanted to thank you for the “Put a Zipper in your Pillow” tutorial. I’ve used it for 6 different pillows now, and it works great. It made the pillows that I made look so professional. Thank you!
Katie
I thought of your you and your blog today, when I saw this post on design sponge…

This week has felt like the never-ending week.
It feels so great to get projects done. I started working on something I started back in September tonight! I really do need to get my sewing machine looked at, I’m determined to quilt.
Love the potholder π
I love the little projects that make you feel so accomplished! I FINALLY finished a pillow I’ve had around since last year and it turned out so great I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner.
Toy clean out…let’s not go on that subject.
I like this pot holder. Good inspiration for sewing. I’m thinking something… colorful. I like how the white edge helps the colors pop.
