I went to the doctor yesterday. The mysterious comes again, goes again wrist pain finally made me do it. I had really put off the visit – I was so so so afraid of what I would hear. This is my right hand – the one I use to write, cook, knit, sew, and, yes, mouse click. Just thinking of what could be causing all this pain when I don’t remember injuring my wrist has had me trembling in my boots. There was one diagnosis I did not want to hear. I think you know which one I mean. I am not going to even type it. That is how scared of it I am.
It turns out I have tendinitis. Hopefully with some anti-inflammatories and physical therapy, I will be right as rain in a short time. I am so thankful that this isn’t some big deal. Really, truly thankful. But, truthfully, I could kick myself for waiting so long to get there. If I had gone two weeks ago, maybe my tangled yoke cardigan would be further along than it is.
Don’t let Scout fool you. She may be looking out the window, but she is way more interested in that ball of yarn. Typical cat. Anyhow, if pain hadn’t forced me to put down the needles, I wouldn’t have made so much of this:
So I guess I still come out a winner. 7 down, 2 to go. Directions on making an X coming soon.
Back to my blog break.
I’m glad that your doctor didn’t say the dreaded words. Great looking Tangled Yoke. What are you using? I love the color!!
Yay for not having CT. There, I almost said the word…
I love the x-quilt. Yummy colors!
I love the new projects! They’re great!
I’m glad the doctor’s visit went well. I think wrist/forearm pain is one of those “female secrets” you don’t learn about until you reach a certain age. I know that a few years of picking up babies really took a toll on my wrists. And wait until spring–planting flowers and vegetables and pulling weeds…better stock up on Motrin now!
LOVE your x quilt! so beautiful!!!
oh erin, that’s terrible! but at least it’s not worse…my mom got “tennis elbow” (tendinitis) from knitting and it was pretty bad. so don’t push it. i wouldn’t want you to not be able to knit for as long as she couldn’t (it was almost a year). at least you have your beautiful quilt to distract you.
Big sigh on the wrist! Truly scary for such a hands on person such as yourself Erin. Glad to hear it’s nothing serious!
And man, I obviously need to take a blog break if that is the results. Your top is looking amazing!
Sorry to hear about your tendonitis. I had the same and the cause was probably knitting, typing, doing dishes, etc. Took some time off and got better with rest & treatment. The body can heal itself. You’ll be back knitting very soon. I did some sewing during my break and now have 3 projects on needles. Get well soon!
I have tendinitis in my right wrist too, the result of a gardening injury (I did something stupid with a shovel)
I used a soft wrist brace from Walmart for about 2 years and moved my mouse to the left of the computer, it’s been probably 5 years since the injury and I still “mouse” on the left, if I go righty, instant pain. It takes a little geting to use too but might be worth a try.
Bummer to have hand pain. For what it’s worth, I get hand pain from metal knitting needles so I only use bamboo. I did a few months of PT and then an Occupational Therapist to get relief for my hand pain a few years back. It cured mine, and I do hope it takes care of your pain.
Pretty quilt squares!
Oh, wow Erin. I just looove your quilt. It looks so beautifull.
:-)Hope your wrist soon will be better.
Gorgeous sweater color! Mine is still sitting at the cable setup row just waiting patiently for me. Take good care of your wrist and it’ll be done in no time.
I really love that quilt. It’s so beautiful and spring like.
Glad to hear the wrist can be treated and that you’re taking care of it. Now get to blog breakin’!
It’s looking beautiful. Be well.
i’ve been down that same road – it’s really frustrating. the key for me has been moderation. not always easy, i know.
that quilt is incredible!!
xoxo
Why is so hard to go to the dr? When my kids have an ailment I quickly rush off, but me, eh, I wait it out. I’m glad to hear that the wrist isn’t anything serious.
Your quilt is looking fantastic!
Aaugh – tendonitis! At least it’s controllable.
The quilt – amazing! The TYC – I’m jealous! (I decided to frog mine once I discovered it would be too big).
Give me a call or email sometime soon.
the quilt is looking great. so glad you’re going to be “right as rain” (never heard that one before! and i like it.).
I’m glad it’s not too serious. The quilt is looking awesome!
your quilt is gorgeous! your tangled yoke is great, too. I hope you recover quickly.
the quilt is TO.DIE.FOR. I love everything about it. you have inspired me.
oh erin- i had a real run-in with tendinitis in both wrists. it lasted a very long time and after many many 3 x a week physical therapy visits i still felt screwed. if you need to talk to someone or want advice, i’m here. my only (unsolicited) advice for you is STOP doing everything you are doing that is hurting your wrists. don’t try to do “just a little.” really truly rest them and you’ll recover more easily. oh, and switch your mouse to your left hand (track ball). i still do this to give rightie a rest.
So happy to hear your wrist will be “right as rain” {love that expression} Take care of yourself!
Your quilt is absolutely beautiful.
I got tendinitis from playing the piano when I was 13. It gradually turned into CT (not saying this will happen to you!) but with PT and limiting my piano time, it got better. Typing is bother me now. I suppose I should stop using the computer so much! Good luck with everything. warm/cold compresses helped too and lots of stretches!
I hope you get to feeling better soon. And, I love the quilt!
I have mad serious love for that quilt.
Glad to hear the pain is not as serious… That CT runs in my family and scares the daylights out of me.
Hope your wrist is doing all better soon! The quilt blocks are looking lovely!
Rest. I’ve had issues with overtaxing my hands and wrists and just resting and knowing your limits helps alleviate things. Take care Erin!
I can relate to your delay in visiting the doctor. Sometimes our imaginations can run wild with all kinds of “What If’s”. Glad you got up the courage to go and it turned out better then you thought. Here’s to a quick recovery!
The quilt is amazing. And the tendinitis does get better and sometimes just goes away. I seem to get it from time to time and it has to do with sleeping with a clentched fist. Weird huh. But it does. And pregancy does it too. Maybe just pay attention to that or wear a brace at night while sleeping. I know. Silly huh. But it does work.
i guess it is a happy tradeoff. and that quilt seems to be more rewarding to me than a tangled mess. although, i am sure yours will not get tangled along the way.
gorgeous. gorgeous quilt!
No knitting for me either, as I must be suffering the same type of wrist / hand pain. I hope you heal quickly. In the meantime, that quilt is phenomenal!
I’ve done the same thing with avoiding the doctor. I need to get over that. The quilt is looking so good.
The quilt is looking simply beautiful!
Congratulations on the ‘good news’ (?). Tendinitis is definitely the lesser of evils. Hope the physio starts to help put you on the mend and with any luck pain will start to be a thing of the past in the weeks to come. Be sure to pamper that wrist in the meantime.

Would purchasing one of those more ergonomic wrist pads or mouse for working/playing on the computer be any help? It might be worth looking into for the long run.
that’s great that you have a better idea now of what is happening in your wrist and that it sounds like it is on its way, mending itself… in the meantime… the quilt work is turning out amazing!!!
feel better, in mind and body! breathing a sigh of relief can really help in the healing 🙂
the quilt is really beautiful.
Tendonitis seems to be a bit of a theme with women who craft. It’s my shoulder I have trouble with and when the physio heard that I sew he said that he often sees this in women esp who favour one side strongly and do anything that has small repetitive movements – knitting, cross stitch, (blogging)!!
Good luck with your wrist. Hope it heals really soon and you can get back to that knitting!
Good news all around, except maybe for your sweater…
Sorry the wrist is bum, but boy do I love that progress.
Good news indeed!
I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis in my hands last year (at age 31!) but lots of hand exercises help, and I am still sewing away!
So glad your wrist is going to be ok. Make sure you take care of that tendinitis! I love how sneaky your cat is…my kitty is very obvious about his intentions with balls of yarn.
The quilt is looking gorgeous. You’re almost done!
Glad your doc gave you good news.
Just had to comment because your quilt is BEAUTIFUL! WOW!
Great quilt! The colors are beautiful together. You have inspired me to start my next project. I have CT and it has really stifled my knitting. I still knit, but go slowly. Crochet is much easier. Hope your recovery is F-A-S-T!
Hey Erin! I just wanted to tell you t hat I was diagnosed with tendinitis a year and a half ago at 23… I was terrified too, but the treatments have really helped me tons. I pray you have the same results.
Yay for tendinitis. Hmm. Never thought I’d write that. : ) Glad to hear you’re already on the mend, or at least on your way to being on the mend.
Yep tendinitis here too! Unfortunately I have a 20 month old so no way it’s going to go away. Doc told me to rest my wrist- I just laughed at her. Hope you feel better soon.
Glad it’s just tendonitis. Hope you are feeling better soon! Cool X’s.
wow! the quilt looks great! i was wondering what yarn your twisted yoke is in. i saw similar tweed on tiffany in the trees blog last week, and now i’m smitten. sorry about your wrist — its nice to have crafts to switch in between though!
i am so happy for you that it is tendonitis and not that other unmentionable! i hope you get the rest you need for that wrist…
I’m so glad to hear it wasn’t the CT! I worry that I will get that someday, since all my hobbies involve repetitive motion.
I hope the doc’s suggestions start to help soon!
That quilt is to pretty for words…
