I've finished sewing all 54 blocks, each made of 15 squares.
I've laid the blocks out on the floor, moving furniture to make enough room. I didn't fuss too much about what went where – just changed the place of a couple and left it at that.
I ordered 7 yards of fabric for the back.
Now to sew it all together and come up with a quilting plan. This one may have to be out-sourced to a long-arm quilter. It is one huge quilt!
ellie and i are sitting here swooning over it, erin. it’s gorgeous!
wow. what a treasure. you’re going to be so happy snuggling under that thing!
that is going to be crazy beautiful. I really really love it.
So amazing. O my. Green with envy… hehe!
Enjoy all that liberty!
It looks great. I am envious. Cannot wait to see it quilted and displayed. Nice toes too.
That is going to be such a gorgeous quilt! I am so excited to see it all finished!
beautiful! absolutely beautiful!
o MY GOODNESS! I just finished making ONLY 1 block of (36) 2 1/2″ squares. And I lost my mind! I am pretty sure I have more grey hair! I am in awe of all of your squares.
Oh pretty pretty! The toes and the quilt!
it’s gorgeous already. can’t wait to see it quilted.
YUMM!
SO pretty!
Beautiful fabrics! Can’t wait to see it all finished.
love! have you said where it is going in your house? i forgot.
Erin: I have been waiting for you to post this quilt as I have just finished a queen sized Liberty quilt too. I used kona white in the quilt as well, to break up the pattern (all 4″ squares) and I backed it with 3 yards of 108″ Kaufman Muslin (just lovely fabric). I used warm and white for the batting. I was also afraid I would not be able to quilt it on my regular machine so I did 1/2 at a time (stitch-in-the-ditch). I purchased those clips from the fabric store to hold the quilt roll while I quilted and they really helped alot. What I did learn was that I could have quilted it as a whole. There was plenty of room to do it on my regular machine! My point being, I would try to quilt it yourself. Sending it out to a long arm quilter can be expensive. Please do post again with the finished quilt however you end up quilting it, and good luck. Yours is beautiful, by the way.
it looks so beautiful already! i love all of those liberty prints together.
I love it! I imagine that it’s just soft as can be.
Also, the toes are spectacular.
so beautiful! I’m so glad you’re showing your progress. π I hope it’s going to live on your bed. π
just goes to show good ingredients are everything.
so, so beautiful.
It’s gorgeous!
I found myself trying to scroll to the right and left of the pictures to see more of what’s there. Of course, I can’t wishfully make the picture zoom out! π
Love your red toes. Note to self: pedicure in order.
You make the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen…AMAZING!!!!!!!!
Oh, it’s gorgeous! Nothing more lovely than a quilt that lets the gorgeous fabrics speak for themselves.
Wow! I have been dying to make a liberty quilt too! Would love to know the deets: how many different fabrics, how much did you buy of each, just for comparison. Is this a king sized quilt? Cannot WAIT to see it completed. And as I tend to be rule and instruction bound (need to use a recipe to cook, a pattern to sew), I really am attracted to the idea of letting go, just cutting the squares, sewing them, not spending too much time overthinking placement. I can do it!
I’m inspired…and may have to splurge on a bundle!
That will be the softest, most snuggly quilt EVER!!!
Hi Cay, This is a king sized quilt and the fabrics came from a spectrum bundle I bought from Purl Soho. There was a fat eighth of 52 different fabrics in that and then I added 3 more from my stash plus the white. Hope that helps! Erin
thanks for the pep talk! you might have convinced me. π
it's for fatty's and my bedroom. we'll probably use it mostly in the summer.
Hi Erin,
Did you wash the fabric first and do you recommend doing that? Would love your advice…
Gwen
It’s gorgeous! I’ve sweated over my 70 large fabric squares today, but this is amazing.
So beautiful! I dream of purchasing some Liberty someday!
thats it. as soon as i get back from spring break i am SEWING!
it is lovely, erin.
A giant Liberty quilt! Nothing could be more delightful!
Looks great now..how good will it look when it’s finished!
I just finished a Liberty quilt. I did not wash the fabric before-hand. I am glad I didn’t as I found the Liberty did alot of fraying during the cutting, sewing stages. I think all of the sewing and quilting of the Liberty will help make the fabric stronger for washing/drying. Hope this helps.
I didn't prewash the liberty, but I did pre-wash the white. The liberty didn't fray much for me and I know from experience that it doesn't shrink much either. Hope that helps!
What beautiful fabrics! I’m looking forward to the finished result.
Gorgeous! I must look into getting my hands on these fabrics.
QUE TRABAJO!!!!!!
ME GUSTA MUCHO PERO ES MUY DIFICIL.
SALUDOS.
Thanks! I love it when things come from Purl Soho since I live in Brooklyn! Wow, King size, you brave girl!
Your proximity to that awesome store has me a bit jealous!
this is going to be oh so beautiful!!! i am a huge fan of liberty and dream of sleeping under so much beauty.
Thank you Erin! I went ahead and ordered two mini bundles from Purl. I appreciate your advice and inspiration. Liberty sure is beautiful!
Thanks Michele!
Okay, that’s awesome.
