Hi there

Peonies

Just popping in to say hello.  I've had to be away from home for a little while so my kids clothing update will be in a few days.  Tomorrow another book author will be stopping in.  Speaking of which, the winner of Handmade Beginnings by Anna Maria Horner is Jennifer H. (#228).  Congratulations Jennifer! I'll email you for your shipping address.

Until tomorrow, take care.

Tuesday

April 26

Happy Tuesday.

We had a salad from our garden last night - pretty exciting and very tasty.  We set our two new raised beds over the weekend.  I hope to get the dirt and compost to fill them today.

Kate made her First Communion on Sunday.  She had a great day and I am so proud of her.  We went to a fancy dinner in a hotel with an modern art museum next door.  I need to remember to take the kids downtown more.

It's Derby week.

The peonies are getting closer to blooming.

I want to join in on Meg's Kids Clothes Week Challenge.  I'm going to start making my plan - nightgowns and skirts are on that agenda, I think.

The random number generator said 69 so Vicki is the winner of Comfort Knitting and Crochet Afghans. Congrats Vicki - I'll email you for your address!

Our cupboards are bare.  To the market, I go.

And thanks to all who bought scrap bags.  I'll make more available as soon as I have the scraps to fill them.  I best get sewing.

Back soon, I hope. Take care.

Scrap bags!

Scrap bags

Scrap bag 3
I am pretty amazed at the amount of fabric scraps that I have amassed over the last few years.  In an effort to lighten the load, make room for other fabric and begin collecting again, I just added a slew of scrap bags to the shop.  They are gallon sized bags stuffed with mostly quilting fabrics - some have linen or silk or wool scraps thrown in too.  You'll find Denyse Schmidt, Amy Butler, Heather Ross, Heather Bailey, Anna Maria Horner and other designer fabrics and some Japanese imports too.

Now to finish cleaning the rest of the studio...

Don't forget to comment on yesterday's post before 3 pm today if you want a chance to win Comfort Knitting and Crochet Afghans.  I'll announce the winner on Monday.

Happy weekend!

Threadknits

Threadless
Libraries are the number one place where shh happens

Fatty and I are big Threadless t-shirt fans so I was very flattered and incredibly excited when they asked me to be one of the judges of their latest contest.  Threadknits is a contest for knitters and crocheters.  The gist is that you take your favorite Threadless t-shirt design and knit or crochet it in to something fabulous.  Pretty cool, huh?  The contest is running now through March 1, 2010 - still time for you to whip something up.  You can read the rules and how to enter here.  There are great prizes that included cash, t-shirts and knitting goodies.  The number of entries right now stands at 48 so the odds of winning are looking good!  Follow Threadknits on Twitter for the latest information.

I am looking forward to see what everyone comes up with.

Help Haiti's orphans

I don't watch the news.  Really.  I blame it on being pregnant on September 11, 2001 and not being able to face the devastation and sadness that tragedy caused.  I was about to bring my second child into a world that was falling apart at the seams.  Fast forward a little more than eight years and I am finding it very hard to watch the news about Haiti.  It breaks my heart.  So many people are dead and hurting and I feel so helpless.  The news about the children is especially hard to hear.  I can't even imagine what I would do if my own child were in that situation.

A woman that I knew in college has a child that is stuck in Haiti.  Through the wonders of facebook, I reconnected with her last year and saw photos of her with her darling son when she visited him in Haiti this summer.  She and her husband were interviewed by Anderson Cooper on CNN Friday.  They are actively working towards ensuring safety for Haitian orphans.  Please take a moment to watch their interview and to read their thoughts.

My friends' child is not the only one in need.  There are numbers of children in Haiti who are without family.  Many ofthem were in the process of being adopted by families abroad when theearthquake struck.  All of them are in dire need of support.  Pleasewrite your congress people asking them to grant the necessary passportsand visas to those children whose adoption is already in process.  Youcan find out who your representatives are and how to reach them here.

Melissa's family has ties in Haiti.  She shared some good, pertinent links on her site.  I'll repeat them here:

- Partners In Health Updates

- The BRESMA girls and what's happening at their orphanage

- Heartline blog

- Troy Livesay's updates

I know that this post is a little out of the ordinary for me.  Thank you for taking the time to read.

Happy New Year!

We are back from the mountains, trying to settle into some sort of a routine.  School started back this morning.  The girls had a really hard time getting out of bed.  It wasn't so easy for me, either.  And I have coffee.

Over the past few days, I've read lots of blogs with year-end thoughts and resolutions for the new year.  I, too, have been thinking about how to re-cap the last year and wondering just what I want out of 2010.  That is as far as I have gotten.  I'm still thinking.  I am sure that some coherent thoughts will emerge out of the percolating that is going on - I am beginning to sense a few themes.  As it becomes more concrete, I will share some bits and pieces here.  I do know that I want to be more present in this space.  I am really going to try posting with some kind of regularity.  I also know that I need to keep up with my household chores.  That means lots of closets will be cleaned and lots of stuff will find new homes.

So, accordingly, I'll be back tomorrow.  Right after another cup of coffee and the laundry is finished.
