Bits and pieces

Not much to report.  The girls are in school and all seems good.  Well, at least their first day was good.  My first day was good too.  There was one point in the day when I was wandering around the house aimlessly, not sure what to do with my freedom!  After much hemming and hawing, the gocco came out.  More on that later.

I have printing on the brain.  I'm working on a big project inspired by Printing by Hand by Lena Corwin.  I spent Tuesday night working on a stencil.  I am not a natural with the exacto knife.  Give me a pair of scissors and I can work magic.  The exacto - not so much.

Of course, my imprecise cutting had nothing to do with the wine.

I'll dish more on this next week.  Some things just need to be a surprise.

Looking for some help!

If anyone has an American Jane Wee Play charm pack, fat quarter stack or jelly roll and is willing to email me a photo of some specific fabrics before noon on Monday, I would really really appreciate it.  I am on vacation and don't have access to my stash!  If you can help out, email me at hillroad at bellsouth dot net and I will give you more details.  Thanks!

Done!  Thank you Natalie!

Quick

A tutorial for the sun dress is in the works.  Give me about a week and I will have it up.  Sound good?

Today I whipped up this apron for a friend.

Apron_004_1_1

It was fast - four rectangles and then to the sewing machine.  Using the rotary cutter sped it right along.  No pocket and no fancy stuff, either.  The fabric holds its own.

Here's a back view:

Monday is National Wear Your Apron Day.  I know this thanks to Eren's new blog.  Go check out Apronista - very cool site!

Not much else to say.  We are having a great weekend and I hope you are too.  Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!

WIP::all over the place

I am feeling very scattered today - my mind is going in ten different directions and every surface in this house is covered with something.  Here's a peek:

November_10th_004_1_1

I made envelopes for the soap out of wax paper (bad idea - it doesn't sew very well) and got some stickers made on the xyron before my adhesive roll ran out.  Ugh.

Some shirts waiting to be appliqued.

November_10th_002_1_1

A pile of fabrics that I have been fussing with and editing every time I walk by.

And this mountain of clothes that just keeps getting larger - it just never ends.

Here's hoping for works completed.

Swapping

Thanks to my friend Marcia for making aware of the Holiday Ornament Swap organized by cake + pie and freshly{blended}.  I am in the brainstorming stage and have a couple ideas that could work.  This is going to be fun!  You want in?  You can still sign up - the deadline is November 1st.

Black, White and Read all over

It's raining here and has been for a couple days.  Yuck!  It's hard to get a good photo in this gloomy weather so here's a little something from a couple of weeks ago.

Newspaper_purse_1a

It's a paper trophy honoring my fashionable friend Kelly that I made the Sunday we were in New York.  She out shined us all walking the streets of Manhattan.   When I saw this photo on the front of the Fashion (maybe Style?) section, I knew what I had to do.   All it took was newspaper, some scotch tape and some scissors.  I wish I could say that it was usable, but alas, the clasp is inoperable and the scotch tape is not so sturdy.  It made me think some about sculpture and what it takes to make it.  Also, constructing something three dimensional out of something other than fabric took me out of my box so to speak.  I think I'd like to get my hands dirty again.

Speaking of dirt, to say my hands were filthy when I finished is an understatement.  I have never seen so much black water in a pristine white hotel sink.  Oh well, I had fun!

TGIF

Lots of works in progress, but no photos...I plain ran out of time.  I am looking forward to a nice, carefree weekend with Fatty and the girls.  I am hoping for a trip to the yarn store and some crafting and some cleaning.  Here is another belt I made this week...this one is for me.  Have a great weekend!
