I finished stitching my Daisychain Sampler this past weekend. I enjoyed every last stitch! This project was a great reminder of how much I love handwork. I am on the search for my next take and go embroidery or crewel work. I also might just design my own!
The sampler will be framed and hung in Jane's room which is undergoing a bit of a makeover. Two summers ago, I painted it and made her new curtains and then moved onto other things. I'm back to finishing her room – we've added a bookcase, sent fabric out for an upholstered headboard and bought new bedding. There is a bedskirt to make and furniture to paint. Still, I couldn't resist starting a quilt for her. I hope to finish cutting it tonight and start sewing tomorrow.
I promise to show and tell when it's all finished. I'm also sprucing up some other corners in the house. More on those later.
Those stitches are perfect Erin!
so beautiful! where did you get that pattern?
oops! i forgot the link. here it is:

Does the pattern specify the wool colors, etc? I’ll probably need to order online. I’m all wanty over a good needlework project.
I love the color that you chose for your alphabet sampler! Do you mind sharing the wool colors?
OH I love the colors you chose! I’m almost done with mine, 1.5 letters left! I used the DMC floss numbers Alicia gave. I can’t wait to pick up another handwork project, too. So Fun!
I am so impressed, that’s just gorgeous! I can’t embroider to save my life but I sure love the looks of it.
A-Z! Kudos to you. The sneak peaks are lovely; can’t wait to see the frame.
Reminds me of the sampler (cross stitch!) I made for my eldest before he was born. The little girl pulling the bunny seems now, ahem, a little in-appropros for an almost-eleven year old boy. But boy, does it bring me back…
Good luck on the redo.
that sampler keeps popping up all over the place. it might have to make it on my list. yours is particularly lovely, nicely done!
Excited to see the bedroom!!! I’m sure it’s going to be adorable.
Such beautiful closeup pictures of your work! I can’t wait to see the bedroom too!
Hi Erin. I have been a loyal reader of your blog for over a year. I love your projects. Could you recommend to me some beginning crewel work projects? I have never done anything like that before and would love to try. Your alphabet one is beautiful. Something like that would be so precious in my daughter’s room. Thanks. Erin
Hi Erin – I think you should just try this. Seriously. This was my first crewel project, too, and while I have been known to embroider a thing or two, I learned a bunch of new stitches doing this. It comes with all the stitch instructions and there is enough wool to practice on scrap fabric before you jump in. I'd also recommend Alicia Paulson's book, Embroidery Companion. It has a lot of great projects and tons of know-how. Good luck!
absolutely gorgeous. i agree, there is something special about handwork. it’s quieter somehow, maybe? lovely sampler.
Thanks so much for the quick reply! Ok, I will give it a try and also check out the book you recommended. Will let you know how things work out!
Your sampler is beautiful, I love the fabric colour you chose.
that sampler is amazing!!!!
