Spring break is over, the kiddos are back in school and I am without a sewing machine. Yes, that’s right – without a machine. I took it in for a tune-up before I left and apparently, it need a little more than just TLC. It requires a couple of new parts and lucky me, I get a big repair bill. Yikes. And of course, this all happens as my mind is racing with ideas and I have a huge urge to get sewing. There are so many things I want to make, but just can’t without my machine. What to do?
The obvious choice was to go in here and tackle the mess. I spent a good chunk of time on Friday and Saturday folding fabric, organizing and trashing out.
This is what’s left. Scary, huh? The rest of the room is pretty well done and the table has been the dumping ground for all the little things that are still homeless. It will get cleaned up and organized or there won’t be anywhere to put the machine when it comes home. And that would be very sad because I want it to come home. Soon.
On another note, thanks for all your nice comments about my photo posts last week. I always enjoy a week where I do more showing than telling.
That’s not nearly as scary as the fact that the first thought that popped into my head was, “she needs a backup machine.” Yikes!
Probably your idea is better. Time to organize your space so it’s even better than ever when your machine comes home. Hope it’s a quick return!
I’m dreading taking my machine in for a service. I don’t think I can part with it and I know it’ll be gone for a long time! I hope yours come back speedily!
You mean to tell me that you only have 1 machine? A little cheap model is great for just this purpose. What kind of sewing machine do you use? I’m in the market for a new one.
oh no!!!! is it contagious? (through the internet? 🙂
poor you. when you’re done with your sewing room, you can come organize mine! 🙂
wow.. what a downer. no machine, what to do?! hopefully you’ll feel recharged and ready with a spankin’ clean new room. it’s almost there! plus your colorful threads on the wall make me happy. i am sure every time you see them they inspire you to create something new.
Oh no, a broken machine is BAD! I hope you’ll have it back soon!
Oh, I hate when they take my sewing machine! Even tho I don’t use it daily I like to know it’s there ready for me to use it.
Everyone would gasp in horror if I displayed a picture of my sewing area right now. I’m in desperate need of organizing!
hope your machine is done being repaired soon. I really understand your pain….last september my sewing machine died, and I had to replace it. I was out of a machine for a few weeks, and it was miserable!!! but it is a good time to force yourself to clean.
I have a closet (what I would GIVE for a room!) and it looks much worse. No matter how many clear bins I accumulate, things still need to get put back away. I have a problem with that part. In my house it is the “displaced” rather than the “homeless.” Stuff I mean.
Yikes! There’s nothing worse than having the sewing itch and no way of scratching it. Can you borrow a machine from a neighbour? In my case, if I don’t pound those ideas out right away they fade and I can’t remember what it was I was itching to make.
Isn’t it funny that we always want what we can’t have? I hope you’re writing down those ideas so you can jump right in when your baby comes home.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery! Does your machine have a name too?
Write + sketch out all those ideas so when he finally comes home, you’ll be ready to go 🙂
oh, I have been anxious to see your finished room!……more time for more ideas!….that is always a good thing! 🙂 (you can always knit) 🙂
oh no, i hope that you get your sewing machine back soon and fixed up nice!
i just finished organizing my sewing cupboard and it felt so good to have everything cleaned up and organized! you definitely should show pictures of what it looks like when you get done with it:)
Oh, no…though you don’t actually say it, you must be suffering serious sewing machine withdrawal–LOL! Hope you’ll be back in the zig-zag again before you know it! Know you, though, you room doesn’t look too horrible…It’s all that crisp white & sky blue that gives your room a sense of serenity, even when it’s slightly dishevled. But it’s good with a tidy up now & then, rather theraputic, don’t you think? Happy Days! :o)
wishing your machine a speedy recovery…
Am I missing something: are you saying this space is disorganized? It looks like a room out of Real Simple. If you wanna see disorganized come on over to my house. Sorry your machine is sick!
I’m reading all of these comments by other sewers (seamstresses?) and I’m facinated by the intensity with which you guys approach this craft. Suggestions of back up machines? I love the devotion! Hope you’re back in working order soon!
