There was no school on Thursday and Friday so we took advantage of our day off and went apple picking. It'd been a few years since we last went and it was wonderful to spend some time outside on such a beautiful day. As the girls get older, they pick more fruit and can last longer out in the orchard. As a result, I will probably be making applesauce for days. Boy oh boy, did they pick a lot!
Fall's arrival had me hankering to knit. I want to tackle hats and sweaters and mitts and cowls. I want to sew pillows for the family room and make a bunch of quilts. I want to cook soup once a week and bake bread. I want to drink tea with honey in the afternoon and maybe even make some apple cider donuts. I want to read books in bed and take hot baths. I want to start making my holiday gifts. I know I won't get to it all, but I am determined to create and produce this season.
Do you have big plans for fall? What are you planning on making?
your enthusiasm is infective!
I agree with all of your ideas and I want to make a lovely homecooked meal every night, keep my house nice and clean, and have my cookie jar fulll of homemade cookies.
One of our favorite memories is apple picking in upstate NY. But living in TX, we don’t get to do such things every year. I love what fall motivates you to do. All it took was a trip down the holiday aisle at Hobby Lobby to get me and my children in the mood.
I get just like you about Fall. There is something about it that brings the ‘domestic’ out in us all. Your list is so sweet! Have a wonderful weekend.
Apple Cider Doughnuts? Please elaborate 🙂 I like the sound of those.
Your thoughts about fall activities are inspiring! I, too, am starting to craft for the upcoming holiday season. Oh this is really a special time of year!
I have a cider donut recipe waiting for me on my counter, I’ve been printing tons of knit patterns for a little one on the way, lots of soup, a Harvest Festival today, next Saturday a trip to an orchard that makes award winning cider and animals to feed, the third Saturday will be a trip to the pumpkin patch, and the 4th our families annual bagna calda! What a great month!

We went apple picking last Sunday for the first time; sooo fun! Fall always makes me feel productive, but not in ‘crafty’ ways 🙂

I’ve already started knitting up a storm here! I’ve made two scarves, a hat (Autumn by Jane Richmond) and am currently working on a cowl (Honey Cowl by Madelinetosh). I also have plans for a pair of flip-top mitts, a pullover, two more hats, and a cardigan…we’ll see how far I get!
Fall is most definitely my favourite season, partially because it means my birthday (coming up on Tuesday) but I also just love the weather! And of course, pumpkin spice lattes are back, so what’s not to love?

Perfectly said. I’ve been feeling all the same things…except for the holiday gifts. 😉 Not there quite yet.

We love apple season! Beautiful post. Just made a raw applesauce with fresh apples from a farm. We are making pumpkin pie and decorating the nature table for Autumn.
I second all your “want to”‘s. I always want to make so much. Who could possibly be bored? So much to do, so much to enjoy!

Fall is in the air tonight. I hope to knit a lot, first and foremost to finish the jumper I have on the needles and the socktoberfest socks from Through the Loops. I’m craving thick soups, rich stews and winter squash. I bought pie pumpkins today, hoping to make the stew that gets baked and served right inside. It’s such a fun dish. Yum! Enjoy your bounty of apples. I’m excited to see your Fall projects.

I too have a hankering for some knitting. Maybe a big knit throw made out of some chunky yarn? And of course, lots of cute fall clothes for my little Phoebe girl.
And then somewhere in the back of my head I keep hearing “You’d better start on Christmas presents!”

soup once a week is our new mantra
I am thinking I would like to make a cowl this fall – am checking out the links above
I went to the Vermont Sheep and Wool fest this weekend. Inspiration was all around and I brought home plenty of it. Sweater kits, sock yarn and scarves are on the list right now. Lots of baking on the weekends too.

I just learned to knit socks, so I see a lot of that in my Fall future. I also have the baking “bug.” I’ve made 3 kinds of cookies and 2 kinds of bread this weekend. And a pot of chili, naturally. Possibly some dog treats…. the list just gets longer, doesn’t it?
yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and um, yes.
but right now? still plowing through two.and.a.half.bushels of apples. Twenty quarts of sauce, and counting…

Applesauce (4.5 pecks for us), flannel Fancy Nancy nightgowns for Christmas Eve for the girls, Amy Butler lounging pants for my Mom (and maybe some for me?), your apple cake recipe (it never gets old, does it?), and some curtains! PLEASE, time for the living room curtains.
Love, love, love fall. Can’t wait to takle some projects put off due to the lovely summer weather.
I have been feeling the urge to get out the crochet hook and work on my granny square blanket once again.
we apple picked this weekend too, and now I have lots of applesauce making ahead of me.
I can’t wait to finish the slouchy sweater that I’m almost done with. And I’ve got sewing on the mind, too. I’ve got a ton of unfinished projects sitting around to be sewn on. Like, 3 quilts. And there’s some flannel that is dying to be made into lounge pants for nate and I.
I’ve been dying to go apple picking! I’m going to have to take care of that soon! Apple cider donuts sound heavenly too!
