The good news: the twirly skirt tutorial is finished! The bad news: I can’t get it up on my blog the way I want. I have spent the entire afternoon trying different things and still can’t get it right. If there are any typepad users out there who can help, I’d appreciate it. Here’s the deal: I set it up as a photo album. In design configuration, when I click on the photo album to show in the sidebar, you can only see my description/introduction. I don’t want this (lengthy) information there. What I really want is a thumbnail of the above skirt that you click to take you to the gallery/tutorial. Anybody have an idea?
For all of those waiting, it’s coming. I promise.
Thank you Kim!!!! You can find the tutorial link in the right side bar. Ahhh…finished!
Oh, I’m waiting with baited breath, but I don’t know that I can help you with Typepad—I’m still a bit fuzzy on its ins & outs.
I do remember something like when setting up a photo album, there being a choice as to whether you want a specific image to display on the title page—would that mean on your blog, too? Also, could you link up your photo album in the url portion and add your file image in the display portion—-like what people do to add ‘buttons’ and such on their sidebars? Just a couple ideas…I’m afraid I’m not too helpful with this…
FYI, Bloglines isn’t feeding Typepad blogs today, for some reason—someone else pointed it out to me and I’ve noticed it, too… Good luck & I can’t wait!
Sorry, I can’t help you with the Typepad issues, but I love the skirt!
love the colors…waiting patiently!
Beautiful skirt Erin. I too will wait patiently for the tutorial. Sorry I can’t help out I’m on Blogger.
Cute twirly skirt! I’ve just made a twirly skirt this weekend π
I’m afraid I won’t be able to help with your Typepad problem, since I’m totally new to it π
Here’s what you do:
Upload the photo you want to use as a thumbnail into your blog files. (Go into your blog. Control panel. Files. Then upload it.) Then in your typelist that you want to show up in the side bar, put the thumbnail url as the title in between img tags (Like this: ) Then link it to the photo album. Hope that helps!!! Yell if this doesn’t work and I’d be happy to help! π
oh – i’m looking forward to it!!
p.s. i sent you a little happy today!
That is such a pretty skirt! I’m going to have to get some of that fabric, I love it!
Well, sounds like Kim explained how you could do it. Good luck! Can’t wait to see it.
*Love* the colors of that skirt!
ooh, I have just finished up another skirt for my girl so this is perfect timing (because around here, there is no such thing as too many skirts)! yay, thank you!
This is fantastic! Thank you so, so, so, so much for your tutorial. I’ll send you a photo when I get the chance to make one. Flickr group anyone?
That is the cutest skirt. I want to make one in my size.
Thanks so much! The tutorial look great. Someone in our house turns seven Friday. I think a new skirt and tee are in order!
I’m glad someone else helped you with the Typepad stuff. I use Typepad, but not their photo albums, so I’m no help.
I’ve always liked that fabric you used for the skirt — cute, cute!
Phew! Glad you got it. After going back to read my previous instructions, I realize that I didn’t do a very good job at explaining. And I sort of sounded like a “know-it-all”, which I TOOOOOTALLY am not. ACK! Just glad you got it to work. The skirt is darling. π
too cute. i think i am going to make one for myself out of some vintage pillowcases i picked up. just right for our spring heat wave. thanks for the instructions.
thank you thank you!
another thing on my “to do” list…I’ve got a stash of vintage pillow cases and might try it with those. thanks erin!
Thank you, this is so awesome and my girls have been begging me to make them some summer skirts.
Thanks, your a star

oh my gosh this is the CUTEST skirt I have ever seen in my life.
I love the skirt. It is sooooo cute.
very very cute skirt, you did a great job! That fabric oh is that ever pretty!
Oh, Erin, your work never ceases to amaze me! This skirt is darling – I love the fabric color and pattern selection, and the design is so sweet!
Wow Erin!!!! Thanks so much for that amazing tutorial!!!! I will be making Libby one for sure!!!!! π
this is fantastic erin!!! thank you so much!
I have just made this skirt for my 2yo niece. Can’t wait to give it to her. Thank you so much for your tutorial!
Thanks for the great tutorial – I tried it for the first time and unfortunately used material that was too thick and didn’t work as I had expected. But I’m going to have another go!!!
I’ve finally gotten around to making this skirt for my little girl and I’m kicking myself for putting it off for so long. It’s a wonderful tutorial and exactly, exactly, exactly what I wanted. Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us. I think I’m going to be brave and try an adult size, too.
Thanks again. So much.
This skirt was my first time sewing clothing. Your tutorial made it very easy. I made three of them in the same fabric for my daughters for Easter. They are 10, 2, and 4 months. They look so cute! Thanks.
Tara
Thanks for the great tutorial. I’ve made my daughter two skirts following it and we both love them!
Great tutorial — just finished my first of two skirts for some birthday girls. However, am I supposed to leave this big hole on the left side (where the tie/ribbon comes out)? On step 2, we’re told to sew the left side seam 1.5 inches from the top, but there aren’t instructions to close it? Thanks.
I LOVE this tute. I made two for my daughter and one for a friend’s daughter and I email it to all my friends! Thanks for sharing this easy pattern for a super cute skirt!
Thank you for sharing this. I love, love , love this skirt and want to make it for my daughter real soon. Can you share where you got this fabric from. I have tried to find it but no luck. Thank you.
Thank you for this tutorial! I have made my first skirt for my 6 year old daughter and I can’t believe how easy it was! She picked the fabrics and I sewed. I am new to making clothing and am so inspired by the tutorials I have found. If you start a Flickr page for pictures, I will post one. Thanks again!
Cute skirt.
I love that fabric. Any chance you know the designer of that fabric?
Thanks
The fabric is from the Flea Market Fancy line by Denyse Schmidt. Unfortunately, it's out of print.
I love this skirt! but i have a question. I would like to make myself AND my lil girls matching skirts for a photo shoot in july. Do you have any suggestions for converting this into an adult sized skirt? Im kinda new at sewing clothes, mostly just quilt! lol
The trick with making this for an adult is that women have hips and sometimes all that fabric isn't the most flattering. I'd suggest using 1.5 your waist measurement for the width of the fabric. Or find a nice gathered skirt pattern at the store and just add the band at the bottom. Good luck!
Thank you for this tutorial!! I had pinned it on Pinterest a few weeks ago. When my daughter needed a special skirt for Character Day at school I didn’t stress. I knew I had found great directions on how to make one myself (and I’m not a very good sewer!). Thanks again!!
I have a question about the tutorial. I cut my fabric to fit the 38-42 inches tall child. On slide 2 it says to pin the skirt pieces right side together. I’m confused: Do I lay the two pieces on top of each other and pin it that way? And do I sew on the short side or the long side? Thanks!
Hi Emily – You do lay the two pieces on top of each other and you sew the short sides. Hope that helps. Erin
Yup, that makes sense now, thanks! the rectangles just seemed very long. But it’s making more sense now. I’m new to sewing and I think this is a good starter project for me π
